South Campus Principal

The Leo Baeck Day School is a progressive Jewish day school committed to providing academic excellence in a nurturing community. Leo Baeck is Canada’s first Jewish IB School and is CAIS accredited with 800 students spread across two campuses. Our focus is on driving academic excellence in a unique environment that blends Jewish personal choice with IB thinking and learning; we focus on academic excellence while building well-rounded students. We are currently seeking a strong and effective leader to take on the role of Principal at our South Campus.

The Role:

The Principal works closely with the Head of School and other Senior Administrators. The Principal oversees all aspects of school life, taking responsibility for providing direction and guidance to teachers and staff. The Principal is responsible for creating a warm and vibrant school community.

The following specifies the breakdown of those responsibilities:

Responsibilities to the Vision and Mission

  • Has a clear vision for the school and its future direction, and is able to rally and lead the school in that direction.
  • Sets the agenda, aligned to the mission of the school, and creates a consistent standard that is reflected in messaging, teaching and responsiveness.
  • Uses various methods of communication to define, relay, and inspire the mission of the school on a regular basis, maintaining a consistent message.

Stakeholder Relationships

  • Builds strong relationships with key stakeholders to create a warm and vibrant school community.
  • Responsible for student experience from both an academic and behavioural perspective; builds positive relationships with each student.
  • Oversees channels with which parents engage with the school; connects and engages with the parent community through the Parents’ Association and parental engagement committee.

Direct Involvement in Teaching & Learning

  • Takes responsibility for ensuring focused professional learning in the school by working with teachers to ensure they are building their practice and continue to augment their skills.
  • Visits the classrooms, talks to students and co-learns alongside staff.
  • Enables and empowers staff and direct team members to step up effectively to challenges, support staff and recognize achievements; works with immediate team (i.e., VPs) to leverage their strengths and develop their individual capabilities.

Administration

  • Has decision-making responsibility for all elements that impact the daily school experience: fiscal planning, programs, resources, structural set up, etc.
  • Hires, supervises, fires, trains and develops all front-line delivery resources (i.e., faculty) and support staff, according to the school’s mission, values and direction; supports and empowers them.
  • Addresses challenges as they arise: deals with complaints and discipline challenges that require higher touch; brings appropriate parties together to solve issues.
  • Attends and is present at school events.

Broader Community & Educational Alignment

  • Looks for opportunities to engage with secular education and stays abreast of trends.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Masters of Education and Principal’s designation
  • Educational, administrative and leadership experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of MYP and PYP
  • A strong commitment to school and community involvement
  • Knowledge of Jewish customs and traditions

Admission Manager

THE LEO BAECK DAY SCHOOL is seeking an ADMISSION MANAGER to support all aspects of the admission process from recruitment to enrolment and re-enrolment across our two campuses in Toronto and Vaughan. We are seeking a dynamic go-getter who will relish the challenge of growing our incredible new North Campus in Vaughan.

The manager reports to and supports the Director of Admission and works closely to support the Director of Marketing and Communications and interacts with all departments of the school and with the broader community, including current and prospective families, teachers and students.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Presenting the North Campus of Leo Baeck to prospective parents and students: directing the admission process from generating leads to handling inquiries through enrolment.
  • Initiating and managing recruitment activities and programs intended to interest prospective families in Leo Baeck.
  • Promoting good relationships and stewarding community partnerships and marketing, advertising and networking opportunities meant to attract mission appropriate students.
  • Collaborating on the creation and promotion of admission and marketing materials: distribution of print materials, support with online promotions and social media.
  • Researching, identifying and implementing advertising opportunities that promote North Campus recruitment efforts, both offline and online.
  • Administrative duties across both North and South campuses, such as processing applications and database management.  

Key Competencies and Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of professional experience in a related role
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills – confidence in public speaking and networking
  • Creative thinking and problem solving skills
  • Strives for continued growth and learning – receptive to feedback
  • Positive, professional and collaborative attitude
  • Educational experience and pedagogical knowledge a bonus
  • A post-secondary degree in Education, Marketing, Public Relations or related field
