New School Year Transition Tips

We are excited to welcome back our Leo Baeck families for the 2023/2024 school year!

As we all know, the transition back to school after summer break can be both exciting and challenging. It is important to communicate within your family and take the time to listen to everyone’s thoughts, concerns and expectations.

We want to offer some tips to support children in school during this transition:

Listen and Validate:

Pay attention to your child’s feelings and thoughts about going back to school. Listen to any concerns they might have and validate their emotions. Let them know it is okay to feel nervous and/or excited. You may even want to acknowledge that the end of summer is often a challenge for you as a parent as well!

Check In:

Inquire about your child’s day during their transition back to school. Provide them with the opportunity to share their negative and positive moments of their day. We want to give them a safe space and know that everyone has both good and bad aspects to their day/week/month etc.

Connect:

Encourage your child(ren) to be open to new experiences, new classroom dynamics, meeting new friends and reconnecting with old ones.

We would like to remind you about the available support and resources in the school so you can review this with your family. Support is available through connecting with teachers, coordinators, social workers and other administrators.

We are so looking forward to seeing your smiling faces this year!
