The Three Pillars of Web Literacy:
In a world of fake news and information overload, web literacy may be the single most important skill we can teach our students for them to be empowered digital citizens.
Many of us – students and adults alike – are not aware that we lack essential web literacy skills. This ignorance puts us all at risk. We need sophisticated research and critical thinking skills to effectively command the web today, including:
- A thorough understanding of search and validation strategies when using search engines like Google.
- An organizational method for effectively harnessing an overwhelming amount of content.
- The means to connect and collaborate with others around the world to gain further insights into the knowledge we find.
This session will look at how effective search and validation techniques combined with tools like Diigo and Twitter can build better researchers, thinkers and collaborators.
Alan November’s humour, wit and expertise inspire audiences around the world as he pushes the boundaries of how to improve teaching and learning. He is a New York Times bestselling author as was named one of America’s fifteen most influential thinkers of the decade by Tech and Learning Magazine.
Presented through the Gail Debow Family Education Fund.
