Grades 1 to 5

For Grades 1 to 5, we offer a comprehensive and rigorous curriculum consisting of Language Arts, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, Hebrew and Judaic Studies, Physical Education, Health Education, French, Computers, Music, Visual Arts and Drama. Our courses are based on Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum guidelines. We have clearly articulated learning expectations for each grade and subject. Each unit of study has a central idea, learning expectations, lines of inquiry, learning skills and work habits and learner profile attributes.

Ongoing assessments include learning goals and success criteria, allowing us to monitor the academic achievement of our students. We design formative assessments and summative assessments within each unit of study.  Formal written report cards are issued to parents two times a year with teachers providing anecdotal summaries of individual student achievement and academic achievement levels based on the Ontario Achievement Chart. Parent-teacher conferences and 3 Way Conferences are scheduled to allow parents, teachers and students to discuss progress in a school year.

The school day is divided into three parts consisting of: Language Arts/Social Studies; Mathematics/Science and Hebrew and Judaic Studies with qualified teachers teaching in each subject area. Our Student Services team provides support for our learners and gives strategies for our teachers in order to best meet the needs of our students. Classes are heterogeneous in order for children to be able to learn from and with each other and to support each other's strengths. The first 15 minutes of the day is devoted to "home room time" with the teacher in that third of the day being the advocate or "in loco parentis" of the children in that class.

Our students learn by critically thinking through active engagement and with support in a community of learners.
