Middle Years Programme (MYP)
The Grade 6-8 students take part in the Middle Years Programme (MYP) of the International Baccalaureate (IB), a dynamic and powerful educational program with a global perspective.
Middle School has three grades: MYP 1, 2 and 3 also known as Grades 6, 7, 8. Students study the eight MYP subjects as well as Hebrew and Judaic studies: English Language and Literature, Arts – Performing and Visual, Mathematics, Sciences, Design, Individuals and Societies, Language Acquisition French, Physical and Health Education. Hebrew and Judaic studies follow an internally designed Scope and Sequence, through a uniquely progressive Jewish lens.
In addition to these subjects, the Middle School curriculum features Health and Family Life Education offered by Jewish Family and Child Services. A Guidance program is also included in the Middle School curriculum.
Our Middle School MYP program is enriched by co-curricular activities, community involvement, visitors with expertise, out-of-school programs, overnight trips, and the celebration of holy days including Kabbalat Shabbat and Rosh Chodesh. Middle School students elect their own Student Council which gives students opportunities for leadership and plans special programs. Our popular “Buddy Program” enables our Middle School students to partner with younger students for a year-long classroom adventure in collaborative learning activities, guided by their teachers.
All of our Middle School subjects are taught in accordance with IB MYP objectives and selected strands from the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum so that our graduates are prepared for admission to a variety of private and public schools, either IB or Ontario curriculum high schools.
In MYP 3, Grade 8 students undertake a Community Project in which they are able to refine and apply their research skills, as well as contemplate their social and moral responsibility to their local and global community.
